Pulpy serial with where office workers are forced to become badass survivors in a dangerous multiverse.
On just another average day, Jake finds himself in a forest filled with monsters, dangers, and opportunity... It was a day like any other when suddenly the world changed. The universe reached a threshold humanity didn’t even know existed, and it was time to finally be integrated into the vast multiverse. A place where power is the only thing anyone can truly rely on.
Right away, it wraps around you like the coils of an Ouroubos. Jake and coworkers are transported to the tutorial of a dangerous game, for reasons unknown.
What sets this series apart in books one and two are Jake's relationships with his coworkers. A lone wolf, Jake butts heads with his coworkers right away. The first book reveals growing tension between him and many of those he worked office jobs with. Some adapt. Others become... odd. Or fall behind. It keeps you on your toes.
But the story wouldn't be as famous as it is were it not for an exceptional System. System mechanics blend the perfect amount of crunch and cream, systematic and easy to swallow. The plot feels like part of the mechanics, rather than an add-on meant to please litRPG fans. It has depth.
In books three and four, the appeal of the series shifts. Jake spends more time alone or with characters who, honestly, are a bit shallow, plot-wise. The setting supernovas in scope, which is fun but also means Jake is hopping from one crazy ginormous thing to another to stay relevant. The plot loosens, going from riveting action to pulpy slice-of-life serial, with ocassional splash pages.
Who should read The Primal Hunter
LitRPG fans of crunchy systems and lone wolves. Fans of OP MCs. Fans of massive settings. Readers who are new the the genre and want something light.
