LitRPG Books: Where to Find the Good Ones

LitRPG popularity has surged. Over the humble reader crests a wave of fake Amazon reviews and AI slop. Where does one find the good litRPGs?

How to search Royal Road

I'd recommend starting with Royal Road, a free website that hosts thousands of web novels by (mostly) human authors. The site mandates tags for AI-written and assisted work. Authors frequently post free drafts here before publishing to Amazon.

Here's how I'd find good litRPG books:

  1. Navigate to Royal Road.
  2. Scroll down to the "Best Of" lists. There is one for Completed novels and one for Ongoing. Pick your poison.
  3. Click "More" in the upper right corner of each list. This should bring you to the full list.
  4. Click "Global Filter" in the upper-right corner and type "litRPG".
  5. Click "Save filters."
  6. Browse!

How to search Amazon

Amazon is just awful at helping you sort thorugh litRPGs. It drowns you in sponsored content with questionable reviews, and it's hard to tell AI slop from human stuff.

Here's how I'd find good litRPG books on Amazon:

  1. Install an Amazon filter Chrome extension. I like Amazon Sort By Review Count.
  2. Navigate to Amazon.
  3. Search the Kindle Store for litrpg.

Watch out for sponsored content. It can be a lot. Sometimes, the first three books that pop up will be sponsored. Check the tiny grey "Sponsored" button Amazon sneaks into listings. FYI some sponsored books are decent, but the reviews on these books tend to be inflated.

How to search Reddit

Hit or miss reviews by redditors. The more books a redditor has read, the better the reccs, I find. Instead of scrolling through r/litrpg, I'd rather Google something like "reddit best litrpg of 2026". Otherwise, you'll scroll past ads, authors plugging their books, and random genre questions.

IMO Reddit is solid for surfacing books that aren't on Amazon and haven't gone mainstream. You'll find the same ones pop up again and again. Lots of cross-polination between fans of litRPG and sister genres like gamelit, xianxia, isekai, dungeon core, and general progression fantasy.
