Books Like Dungeon Crawler Carl
Dungeon Crawler Carl is the series that made litRPG go mainstream. Hell, even Barnes and Nobles features it! (FYI the cover art is so gorgeous, I've started my hardback collection.)
Unfortunately, the series is ENDING soon (insert sobs). FML, amiright? Look, the best way to get over a bad breakup is to distract yourself with something new, or so I've been told.
While there's no series that's quite like Dungeon Crawler Carl, if you liked that series, you might enjoy one of the following.
1. Industrial Strength Magic
Earth, meet Perry, a kid who won't let something as silly as physics deprive him of his one lifelong wish: super uber magical powers.
Super silly with stakes that escalate faster than a bomb strapped to a blonde bombshell strapped to a rocket strapped to the Death Star. Early books plant the seeds of Perry's meteoric rise to OP-dom.
Disclaimer: Poly harem ahead. By which I mean, Perry forms a relationship with two women who are also in a relationship. This throuple is hilarious, though I could do without the smutty scenes. On Royal Road, these were optional and easily skippable. Not sure about the Amazon books.
Come for the silly superhero humor, stay for the incredibly engaging plotline and rising stakes. A rare, completed webnovel-turned-series I never once wanted to put down. Dungeon Crawler Carl fans might enjoy the lighthearted read after what is, frankly, a darkly humorous series.
FYI yes, there is a System with blue screens. This series is litRPG-lite in that the litRPG elements are unique to the main character. Personally, I love the buildcrafting elements.
2. Omniscient Reader's POV
A reader is shocked when his favorite webnovel series ends without warning. He's even more shocked when the novel comes to life!
Confession: this is a webtoon, not a novel. But it is so good for fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl, I have to spotlight it. Like DCC, the setting of Omniscient Reader is one where powerful, godlike beings livestream humans for entertainment. There are loveable side characters and epic plots.
The litRPG elements are comprehensive without being overbearing. Think blue screens, lite stats, and a large item catalogue that doesn't constantly pull things out of its butt for plot reasons.
I recommend reading the series on the Webtoon app. I'm pretty sure it's free, up to the 10 or so most recent episodes. There are over 300 ep released so far, and more on their way. (The art is excellent, if you care about that sort of thing.)
