How to Read LitRPG for Cheap
Where to find litRPG reads without shelling out twenty bucks or more at Barnes & Noble.
I was a poor teen, once. Now, I'm just poor. Let this old miser rant a bit about the best places to find litRPG for cheap. This won't take long -- the list is short, ya'll.
Royal Road
The largest collection of free litRPGs and progression fantasy novels can be found on Royal Road. It's not even close. Most successful authors publish their drafts here before posting to Amazon. Note, once posted to Amazon, stories are often "stubbed", which means most the story is removed from Royal Road. It's a Kindle Unlimited requirement. Curse you, Amazon!
Kindle Unlimited
Speaking of KU, most litRPGs on Amazon are available for a Kindle Unlimited subscription. In the U.S., that's about $12 a month as of writing. (Parents will often sponsor it, wink wink nudge nudge. Just say it's for reading books, parents love that.) You can also find non-litRPG books on KU, including nonfiction and progression fantasy books, a sister genre to litRPG.
Note, Kindle Unlimited purchases are basically rentals. Once your KU subscription (or 30 day free trial) ends, you gotta return the books.
Local Library
Adding this to be thorough, but to be honest, it's slim pickings out there. Only the biggest traditionally-published books are typically found in paperback. Most litRPG authors self-publish.
You might be lucky enough to pick up copies of Dungeon Crawler Carl, the number one litRPG series at the moment. (Yes, it's actually good.) Other litRPGs, you might find in the fantasy section of the library.
